See What's Going on

Now That's Innovation

Saturday, January 24, 2004

I am not sure if any of you out there have
noticed but there is war going on. No I am not talking about Iraq or anywhere
in the Middle East. In fact, the war I am talking about probably doesn't even
exist in the Middle East. You see, as far as I can tell, it's fashionable for
middle easterners to not shave. They like to have beards, and the
removal/prevention of beards is the point of conflict in the war that I am
writing about here today. You see, I am writing about the Razor wars. What's
that, you've never heard of the razor wars? Well you will soon.

Back in the olden days, picking a razor was not such a tough decision. There
was one blade and a handle. Today things are not so simple. A war has been
waged between the major Razor manufacturers; mainly, Gillette and Schick. It
seems Schick (Schick is a subsidiary of Energizer) is kind of pissed off that
Gillette has 70% of the razor market, and Schick only has 20%.

Gillette has continued it's dominance by jumping out in front in the new three
blade razor market. That’s right kids, three blades in one razor. Now, in what
is clearly a declaration of all out war, Schick has come out with a new four blade razor
named the Quattro.
Gillette has retaliated with this quote: "...I can
say we know from several decades of research that adding blades alone does not
ensure a superior product," Chris Jakubik, Gillette's vice president of
investor relations, said when asked by an analyst whether Schick's product
posed a threat.

The war doesn't end there, Gillette has decided to sue Energizer claiming that
"A four blade razor would not function well, and would not have
significant market appeal, unless it utilized the progressive geometric blade
configuration invented by Gillette," the lawsuit stated. "Energizer is deliberately attempting to
capitalize on the superior performance of Mach 3, the world's No. 1 shaving
product." Is anyone else wondering how they pack so much technology
into such a little razor?

Now, Gillette is trying sell more razors by saying that their latest model
looks "sexy" and "stylish". The commercials compare the
look of the razor to an Italian sports car. Of course style is an important
part of a razor. I mean what will the neighbors think when they come over to
use your bathroom and notice that you use a boring razor whose handle is not
fashioned after a 0 to 60 in under 5 seconds Italian sports car?

I am a gentle man by nature but this war was just too tempting to stay out
of. That is why I have come up with the JZ100. The JZ100 is the first razor to
feature about 100 blades. I like to think of it as the Hydrogen bomb of the
razor wars. I developed the the JZ100 because I felt that there was a total
disconnect between the big blade companies and the consumer. The JZ100 is the
most efficient razor on the planet. A certified JZ100 operator can shave a whole
body in less than 10 seconds. The JZ100 is superior to Gillette's latest
offering because not only does it look like an expensive automobile, it
performs like one too. For obvious reasons, the JZ100 is also superior to the
Quatro. The Quatro only has 4 blades while the JZ100 has 100 blades (that’s 5
times as many blades!).

Now I am sure the big blade companies will counter my attack with lawsuit's and
101 blade razors, but I doubt they can overcome the initial shock and awe
inflicted by the introduction of the JZ100.

Babies Drinking From Cups

Friday, January 09, 2004

Did you know Babies can drink from a cup? I mean new born babies. Were talking a 5 day old 20 inch long 8 pound 12 ounce baby girls.
Maybe the whole world knew this but me. I mean it's not a big cup..just a little one, but they gulp it
down just like a grown up. However, I would not recommend feeding a baby this way. I am not sure about this,
but from my own observations I have come to the conclusion that babies are more likely to spit up if they
have been drinking from a cup.

Another good reason not to feed a baby with a cup is that breast feeding is just plain better. There are many reasons
why breast feeding is the best way to feed a baby, but I prefer that my baby is breast fed because
poops and spit-up don't stain or stink as much
